Story Directive Framework #3: Align the Strategy

What should a video strategy even look like? Why does it matter? What does a misaligned strategy cost you? It cost one of our clients…

Most Production companies just jump straight into production without a thought about strategy. They gather ideas, schedule a shoot, and hope the visuals will come together into something meaningful. But without a clear plan, even great content can miss the mark. That is why aligning the strategy is a core part of the Story Directive Framework. Before anything is filmed, we make sure the story, the audience, and the goals are all pointed in the same direction.

Strategy alignment begins with defining the objective. What should your audience think, feel, or do after experiencing your story? What result matters most to your brand right now? When the goal is clear, the creative has purpose. This is where the strategy established in the earlier stages of the framework becomes the foundation for everything that follows.

Alignment also clarifies what needs to be captured. Today, storytelling is not about a single hero video or photo. It is about building a system of content that works across platforms and supports multiple points in the customer journey. By understanding where the story will live, how viewers will encounter it, and what will drive them to act, we can design a shoot that collects the full set of assets you need. This prevents guesswork and missed moments and ensures the story holds together from the first impression to final conversion.

When everyone understands the plan, production becomes more focused. Interviews have a clear role. Visuals support specific narrative beats. Instead of scrambling to fill gaps later, the team can work efficiently and still leave space for the unscripted moments that often elevate the emotional tone of a piece.

Strategic alignment also strengthens distribution. When content is shaped with platforms, formats, and viewer behavior in mind, it performs better and reaches further. It becomes adaptable, scalable, and more effective across every place your audience spends time.

Aligning the strategy sets the story up to succeed. It brings clarity to the message, organization to the process, and purpose to the work. It also creates a natural bridge to the next stage of the Story Directive Framework and keeps every decision connected to the bigger picture.

If you have been approaching production without a clear plan or feel like your content has not been fully supporting your goals, we would love to help. Let’s talk about where you want to go and build a strategy that gets you there.
