Beyond the Summit: Documenting World Wide Trekking's Mission in Tanzania
Some projects are just jobs. Others change you. For Story Directive founder Brandon Flint, documenting World Wide Trekking's Kilimanjaro expedition and their Human Outreach Project in Tanzania falls firmly in the second category — and it's one of the most compelling examples of documentary-style video production and brand storytelling we've ever taken on.
World Wide Trekking & the Human Outreach Project
World Wide Trekking is a Salt Lake City-based adventure guiding company founded by Dean Cardinale in 2007. One of their signature experiences is the Kilimanjaro climb — but what sets them apart is their commitment to giving back. Through their nonprofit, the Human Outreach Project, Dean founded the Kilimanjaro Kids Camp orphanage in Tanzania and runs a school lunch feeding program for local children. Story Directive was brought on to document it all from the orphanage and feeding program to an eight-day summit climb up Africa's highest peak. We also had the chance to sit down with Dean on the Story in Action Podcast — check out that episode here.
Solo Production at 19,341 Feet
Brandon operated as a one-man production crew for the entire two-and-a-half-week shoot — no assistant, no support team. Packing two cameras, minimal lenses, and enough batteries to last seven days without a charge, he documented the full Machame Route ascent through rainforests, lava fields, and arctic summit conditions. The result: a powerful highlight video and a full library of marketing photography that World Wide Trekking now uses to promote their Kilimanjaro trekking trips and the Climb for Kids fundraising event.
Storytelling That Goes Beyond the Summit
The most powerful videos and stills from this project wasn't shot at the summit — it was captured at the orphanage, in the school lunch lines, and under the Milky Way at Shira Camp at 4 AM. Authentic moments like these are exactly what Story Directive looks for when producing adventure brand assets and nonprofit storytelling. When your brand is tied to a mission, visual content has the power to move people — and move them to act.
If your adventure brand, nonprofit, or travel company needs video production and photography that captures the heart of what you do, Story Directive is ready to go wherever the story takes us.
